InterAc Salut Foundation is administered, managed and represented by a governing body that is formed from the Board, the Presidency, the Treasury, Teaching Management and Scientific Council according to the respective responsibilities regulated by its Foundation Statutes.

The Board is the principal executive and policy-making body of government, administration and representation of the InterAc Salut Foundation and assumes all responsibilities and functions necessary to achieve its foundational aims. Its composition and responsibilities are defined in Articles 10-28 of the Foundation's Statutes.

President Àlvar Net Castel has been the President of InterAc Salut Foundation since its creation in 2015. This project was initiated while he was President of the Academy of Medical and Health Science of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

He is Doctor of Medicine and Surgery at the Universitat de Barcelona -UB-. He has pursued his professional career in Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, in Barcelona, where he created one of the first Intensive Care Units in Spain. From 1979 to 1982 he was the Medical Director of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, and has since occupied different positions on its Board of Directors.

He is professor of Intensive Care Medicine in Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona -UAB-, the first with this profile in a Spanish university. He has been Vice-dean of research and of the faculty of the School of Medicine, where he was also Dean from 2001 to 2004.

Since 2005 he has been Co-director and Manager of the Interuniversity Master UB-UAB “Intensive and Emergency Care”.

He has published more than 120 scientific titles in both national and international magazines. He has been editor and author of 32 book volumes focused principally on his specialities.

Co-founder (1988) of the Avedis Donabedian Foundation, and member of the Presidency of the Board from its beginnings, he is also member ad personam of the Board of the History Museum and Catalan Medicine Foundation.

He was the founder and first President of the Catalan Intensive Care Association (ACMI), nowadays known as Catalan Intensive Care Association (SOCMIC). Since 2004 he has been a member of the Permanent Board of the Academy of Medical and Health Science of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Currently he is its President.

Secretaria general Doctor in Medicine and Surgery at the UAB, he has been the General Secretary of the Academy of Medical and Health Science of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands since 1997. He is also currently the teaching coordinator of the Catalan Resuscitation Council.

Among other functions, he is the Co-director of the Degree of Immigration, Interculturality and Health, and both the Medical and the Intensive Care and Internal Medicine Director of the Hospital de Mataró..

Juan José Montero Alia

In general, the Treasurer is responsible for finances and administration of the Foundation and, in particular, for developing the functions and duties stipulated in Article 32 of the Foundation's Statutes.

Mercè Balcells Boix

Secretaria general Graduate of Political Sciences and Public Administration at UAB, she has been the General Manager of the Academy of Medical and Health Science of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, and its foundation since 1997. Among other functions, she has worked in the town hall of Mollet del Vallès as Director of the Economy Department and the Managing Director of Public Companies. She has also been the Manager of Hospital de la Creu Roja, in Tarragona.

As President of the Scientific Council, the role of the Teaching Director is to suggest programs, strategies and action plans of InterAc Salut Foundation to the Board. Furthermore, his function consists of contacting the Public Administration, institutions, entities and individuals, as well as organising and managing the internal and external operations of InterAc Salut.

Vacant position

The Scientific Council manages all activities related to the monitoring and quality control of activities of InterAc Salut Foundation. In particular, its specific functions are as follows:

  • Suggesting the curriculum and academic coordinators for postgraduate and doctoral programs.
  • Suggesting the structure of thematic research lines and their coordinators.
  • Coordinating the activities which are organised in conjunction with universities.
